7 Key Reasons to Visit Sarasota, Florida

Visit Sarasota

When you think of Florida, you probably envision beautiful sunny days. It is called the Sunshine State, after all.

Because of that, Florida makes for a great vacation destination, especially if you're from drearier parts of the country.

If you're trying to decide on where to visit, let us help you out. Forget about Miami or Tampa; get yourself over to Sarasota!

Why? We'll give you 7 key reasons why you should visit Sarasota, Florida.

1. The Weather, Duh!

As we've said above, Florida is home to some fantastic weather, and Sarasota is no exception. This city gets an average of 251 sunny days per year, which means over 68% of the time, you'll have amazing sunshine!

Compare that with the US average of 205 sunny days per year, which is just above 56%. And if you come from somewhere where your sunny days are lower than the national average, then you'll definitely appreciate the cheerful weather you're almost guaranteed to have in Sarasota!

2. Great Dining Options

Nowadays, more and more people are becoming foodies. If you're one of the commonly seen food tourists, then you'll love dining in Sarasota.

Since you're by the Gulf of Mexico, you'll be able to enjoy a ton of fresh seafood. And there are plenty of dining options, from casual sports bars and pubs to fantastic upscale bistros with a gorgeous waterside view.

There are so many restaurants in Sarasota that you possibly couldn't try them all in your time here. Plus, you'll find many unique dining spots you won't be able to find anywhere else. Feast upon all types of cuisines from around the world.

Another great thing about the local restaurants is they're very accessible, especially the ones in downtown. You'll be able to dine at the best restaurants around without any trouble.

3. It's Home to Siesta Key Beach

Siesta Key Beach has been ranked the #1 beach in the whole country by Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, aka Dr. Beach. In fact, he picked it twice in a row; in 2016 and 2017. That speaks volumes as to how good this beach is!

Siesta Key Beach stretches across 8 miles and has beautiful fine white sand all over. What makes this beach unique is the sand is always cool to walk on, even if the temperatures are scorching.

There's recently been a $21 million renovation for its public facilities, which means it's definitely a sight to see. On the main bit, you'll enjoy raised concessions and a pedestrian esplanade, as well as a massive parking lot.

If you're not a fan of hustle and bustle, you don't have to stay on Siesta Public Beach. Instead, head on over to either Turtle Beach or Crescent Beach. There are fewer amenities and parking spaces in both of these areas, so you'll have a lower chance of fighting big crowds.

4. Discover Amazing Art

When you consider that Sarasota is a beach-side city, it makes sense that there's a thriving art scene there. With the wonderful weather and beautiful scenery, it's definitely going to inspire a person or two!

So if you're into art, you won't be disappointed here. In this city, you'll find art galleries and museums to fill your time.

And if you're into classical music, there are also plenty of theaters. Check before your trip to see if there are any interesting ballet, opera, or orchestral concerts on.

Not a fan of classical music? Not to worry. Many of the bars and pubs downtown have live music on that's more modern!

5. Walk Through Pretty Parks

Yes, Floridian cities are known for their gorgeous beaches, but did you know Sarasota is also home to many pretty parks?

For example, there are the Myakka River State Park, Rothenbach Park, and Phillippi Estate Park.

In Myakka River State Park, you'll enjoy prairies, wetlands, and pinelands, as well as the Myakka River that flows through 58 square miles of the park.

Rothenbach Park provides 5 miles of trails where you can walk, jog, or cycle. There are also 2 playground areas, so if you're bringing the kids, they have designated spots to play in.

Phillippi Estate Park stretches across 60 acres and features the historic Edson Keith Mansion, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

6. There's Great Nightlife

Many of the bars and pubs have live music and karaoke most nights of the week, so after dinner, after you've digested your food, head back out for some outstanding live entertainment.

On the weekends, if you want to go bar hopping, then you'll have to go to Siesta Key Village. There are bars as far as the eye can see, which makes it very convenient to drink, dance, then move onto the next bar.

Plus, it's very close to Anna Maria Island, which is on our list of top places to vacation as a guy if you're single and ready to mingle. If you come on a weekend, we promise it'll be an exciting and unforgettable time!

7. Get Your Shopping On
