Spring has sprung which means beautiful weather… Most of the time. However, sometimes April showers may visit The Sunshine State. Have no fear, there are plenty of things to do on paradise to pass the time until the sun comes out. Here are 6 fun things to do on a rainy day in the Anna Maria Island area:
1) Movie Theater
A rainy afternoon is the perfect time for a movie marathon! You can lounge in the comfortable recliners at the recently renovated Regal Oakmont 8 theaters, or make it a movie marathon day by popping some popcorn, treating yourself to your favorite candy, and streaming some films on Netflix.
2) AMI Historical Museum
Get to know some of Anna Maria Island's history at the AMI Historical Society Museum. There, you can learn more about this beautiful area and check out their awesome features like an Original Homesteader Map and much more.
Free admission and donations welcome!
Doing something creative and hands-on can brighten up any gloomy day. Maybe it’s time to tackle a craft you’ve been meaning to try from your Pinterest Board. For little ones, you can use some watercolors to depict their favorite sunset or paint on seashells you’ve collected to make them the perfect DIY souvenir.
Whether you’re an annual resident, snowbird or a visitor... all are welcome to enjoy The Anna Maria Island Public Library! Not only do they offer countless books and movies to borrow but they are always featuring special exhibits and children's programs.
It’s only $15 for your entire family to become members at the Island Branch Library.
5) Try New Recipes
Whether you’re a grillmaster, king of the kitchen, or a major novice: Staying inside all day can offer up some free time to test out new recipes or hone in on cooking skills. A fun idea is for everyone to make their own individual mini-pizza with toppings of their choice. Or maybe you’re not so into the cooking aspect and would rather decorate some cupcakes with a variety of sprinkles and icing!
6) Ringling Museum
While it’s a little bit of a drive from Anna Maria Island, The Ringling has so much to offer it’s a great way to spend a rainy day. Home to the State Art Museum of Florida, the Ca'd'Zan Mansion, Bayfront Gardens, an Art Library, the Circus Museums and the Historic Asolo Theater.
Admission to the Art Museum and grounds is free for all on Mondays, and it is always free for students with school ID. Children 5 and under are always free!
Keep in mind: some of the most beautiful sunsets on Anna Maria happen after a rainstorm. Weather can be fickle. Your perfect vacation doesn’t have to be.
