Getting Around on Anna Maria Island

Here on Anna Maria Island, we appreciate the slower pace of life. We try to not be in too much of a rush and when we do arrive, we like to arrive in style. There are some unique ways that we prefer to get around our island home. Our team at Cedar Cove decided to highlight our 3 favorite fun suggestions on how to bop around AMI.

A major staple of Anna Maria Island is our trolley! These teal colored, open-air seating trolleys run daily from one end of the Island to the other. These fixed routes trolleys run 7 days a week from 6 a.m to 10:30 p.m. every 20 minutes from the Anna Maria City Pier on the north to Coquina Beach on the south. There are plenty of stops throughout the island and is convenient whether you’re riding solo or with a large group. Trolleys offer both air conditioned and open-air seating and are hop-on, hop-off. Just wait at one of the trolley stops within operation hours and they’ll come pick you up, no bus card needed!

A great way to get your blood pumping, some fresh air, and a trusty way around the Island is on a bike! With Anna Maria Island being only 7 miles long from one end to the next it’s totally practical to get from place to place on a bike. Whether you’re doing a food/drink tour of the island, just needing to run an errand, or are more about enjoying the journey than the destination itself - hopping on a bike is the perfect way to explore Anna Maria Island… especially if you’re looking to avoid any peak beach traffic! Beach cruisers are the perfect transportation so grab your wheels - or rent one from one of the many affordable local rental shops like Beach Bums on Pine Avenue.

Monkey Bus

Island Beach Monkeys is another great local transportation service. Commonly referred to as “The Monkey Bus”, their fleet is available to drive you wherever you want to go and rides are free- they run on tips! Want a ride to dinner? Need to run errands? Want a tour of Anna Maria? Their team of friendly drivers is at your service! Open until the wee-hours of the morning and on request, the Monkey Bus is your fun go-to for needing a ride late. And unlike the trolley, their vehicles can cross all the bridges, meaning you are not limited to the Island. They will go to Siesta Key, Cortez, Downtown Bradenton, and even the Ellenton Outlet mall.  You can pre-book trips all over the Tampa Bay and Sarasota area. With a whole crew of Island residents

They can offer a wealth of information about Island businesses, dining choices, sights, and special events. If you’re looking for an added fun twist, they even have a karaoke-equipped vehicle! Open daily Noon to 3:00 a.m.
